Who is each one actually for?

What does Hex do that Flitch cannot?
Arbitrary computation. Anything you can express in Python or R runs in a Hex notebook: statistical work, forecasting, clustering, calling an external library, training something. Flitch has no equivalent and is not trying to. Hex also has a reactive execution model where changing an upstream cell updates everything downstream, which is a genuinely nice way to work through an analysis. If the task is analysis rather than reporting, Hex is the right tool and Flitch will frustrate you.
What does Flitch do that Hex cannot?
Produce a dashboard for somebody who cannot build one, and put it somewhere public. Hex assumes an editor who can drive a notebook; that is a seat and a skill set. Flitch generates the dashboard from a description, publishes it to your own custom domain with optional password or email-restricted access, and lets viewers question the data with Ask AI. It also takes data in ways Hex does not: direct file upload, AI-found sources, and input tables where a dashboard collects data from the people using it. Hex expects your data to already be in a warehouse.
Can they sit alongside each other?
Reasonably well, and for some teams that is the honest answer rather than a dodge. Medium compute is included on paid plans, but Team and Enterprise can opt into advanced compute, billed per minute of kernel runtime and invoiced every $100 of spend, which is how you reach the larger kernels up to 16 CPUs and 128 GB of RAM. Separately, Hex queries your own warehouse, so that compute lands on your Snowflake or BigQuery bill. With Flitch, credits are the whole bill.
